'Corner House', former KGB branch headquarters in Riga, Latvia. May 2, 2015

Building on the intersection of Brīvības Street and Stabu Street in central Riga. Anno, 1910; designed by architect Aleksandrs Vanags. Originally a tenement house with stores, from 1940, the apartments and shops were converted into offices administering the bureaucracy of oppression and dozens of cells, some large, some no bigger than a wardrobe.

In order to turn the spotlight on and prompt discussion about the history of the building, the KGB House was open to the general public from April 30, 2014, offering an extensive educational and cultural program. Visitors can see detention cells, interrogation rooms and other reminders of the building’s odious past.
