Math Student of the Year and AMATYC Exam Awards 2025

by Inver Hills

The AMATYC exam is a national competition open to any 2-year college student who does not have 2-year degree (or higher). There is an exam given in the fall and in the spring and a school’s team score is comprised of the top 5 total scores between the two exams. This year’s top scorer for Inver Hills was Sam Larson. Sam has been taking courses at Inver Hills as a PSEO student and will be transferring to UMD after graduating from high school. Sam was also the student leader for Math Club this year and has some incredible problem solving skills.

Inver’s top 5 scores from the AMATYC exam in the fall came from: Sam Laron, Cameron Judge, Ernesto Guzman Pacheco, Gage Sharp and Nathan Kammueller. Inver’s top 5 scores on the spring exam came from: Noah Wahlquist, Sam Larson, Zachary Dahl, Isabella Stinsa and Leslie Condo.

Each year, the math department selects a math student of the year. This year’s honoree is Logan Gerbitz. Logan holds himself to incredibly high standards. He works diligently and doesn’t quit studying until he reaches an understanding of a concept. He attends class faithfully and is an active participant. Additionally, he has been a fixture in our math center helping others find success as math students. He will be studying engineering at the U of M Twin Cities next year.
