Scarlett - stranger 397
As I walked round Nottingham looking for potential people to approach for my stranger project, I saw a young lady sitting outside a shop. It turned out she worked in the shop and was taking a short break. Scarlett said yes straight away to being photographed for my project, so I asked her if it would be ok if we went round the corner to a grey wall that was there as I felt this neutral-coloured backdrop would help make the colour in her hair really standout. This background was also in the shade, which is always a preferred choice for me as I don’t have to deal with bright highlights and heavy shadows.
Scarlett told me she had lived in Nottingham all her life. When not working, she likes painting and drawing, especially in the American traditional style. A lot of her work is done in reds, greens, and blacks.
Scarlett also enjoys ballet, which she’d first started doing when she was three. She attends a ballet school and performs in shows.
If I could grant Scarlett a wish, she said she’d like to have the ability to teleport.
Does Scarlett have a guilty pleasure? “Shopping”, she said instantly.
What can’t Scarlett live without? “My mum”, she said, then added, “I can’t bear to think about life without my mum in it.”
Thank-you Scarlett for letting me photograph you for my project. I hope you like your portrait.
This picture is number 397 in my 100 Strangers project, yes, I’ve decided to do a fourth round. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
This is my 368th submission to the Human Family Group. To view more street portraits and stories visit www.flickr.com/groups/thehumanfamily/
