Ryan - stranger 115/200
I met Ryan in Nottingham City centre during a visit made specifically to add to my stranger project. I’d found a street that offered a number of different backgrounds and had decided to wait around and see who would come along. It wasn’t long before I spotted Ryan and his companion heading my way. The colour of Ryan’s beard meant I just had to ask if he’d be a stranger for me. Both Ryan and Blue (see my previous stranger) agreed as they both had an interest in the arts of all kinds. Ryan told me he thought the idea behind the stranger project was fantastic.
As Ryan was dressed mainly in black I felt a similar coloured background would be ideal to really bring out the colour of his beard. There wasn’t any problems taking Ryan’s picture other than being photobombed by a couple of lads which added to the fun element of the shoot.
Ryan told me he was a support worker for adults with disabilities which lead to me mentioning my stranger number 113, Max, who I’d photographed earlier that day in another part of the city. Max was in a wheelchair and it turned out that both he and Blue knew Max. What chances of photographing strangers on the same day in different parts of Nottingham that knew each other?
Ryan told me that he and Blue enjoy going to watch drag queen shows and attending the alternative music scene.
I then asked Ryan my question of the moment of who his first star crush was on and he said Emma Watson, citing her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films as being where that infatuation came from.
Thank-you Ryan for being such a terrific stranger and I hope you like your portrait.
This picture is #115 in the 100 Strangers project, yes I’m doing a second 100. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
