Wat Chedi Luang

Replaced with a better edit from JPEG on 9 Dec 2020.

Back when I traveled with my Olympus OMD m4/3 system.

Chiang Mai was the capital of the Kingdom of Lan Na which was originally not part of Thailand until it was annexed in 1920.

Back then I shot only JPEG, wished I shot RAW as there's so much more I can do with RAW files these days without the problem of the SOOC JPEG falling apart on heavy editing. Then along came a guy on a photographic website proclaiming that he has stopped shooting RAW and rely just on JPEG recently. What a load of bull, these misguided hobbyists do a great disservice to beginners with their ill-informed and even half-baked ideas.

The m4/3 system is fun to shoot with. The small form factor means you can bring an ultra-wide zoom, standard f2.8 zoom covering 24-70 or even 80mm and a couple of fast Primes and yet fit everything including the body into a small shoulder bag. It accords me total freedom to shoot ultra-wide perspectives, streets, landscapes and shallow enough DOF shots like portraits etc, all in one small bag. Even the accompanying tripod can be smaller and lighter. For the equivalent on my Nikon system, I need to lug all of that in a backpack, the mere thought of the hassle sometimes killed all enthusiasm for the shoot.

So personally, m4/3 compactness does not get into the way of vacationing where photography is and ought to be secondary.
