"Sapta-Matha" or Seven Mothers: Brahmaani, Maaheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Vaarahi, Indraani, and Chaamundi flanked by Rudra and Ganesha. This is a classical set of idols seen in many temples. The seven female forms derive their origin from Brahma, Shiva, Subramania, Vishnu, Varuna and Yama respectively. They fought a fierce battle against the Evil forces of Darika who had got a boon that he shall not be killed by any male.
These beautiful statues were wantonly destroyed by the Mughals under Aurangazeb
