Under semaphore control
HST services have been diverted over the Tyne Valley line on many occasions in their long operating careers, 2019 being the last year for this occurrence as the type will all have gone from LNER by the normal time of year for scheduled diverts. Back on 9th April 1988 1S21, the 11:00 Kings Cross to Edinburgh service is seen heading through Haltwhistle. The platform on the right with the track removed was that for the branch to Alston. Much steam age infrastructure is still in evidence. The site has changed little in the last thirty-plus years, except for the inevitable take over by scrub.
