Improvement by deterioration?
The fortunate passengers from Scarborough received new trains in 1987, to replace the loco-hauled sets, six passenger coaches being replaced by four car Class 150 DMUs. Seen here on 20th July with 150210 leading is the 15:53 Scarborough to Liverpool service passing Burton Lane at York, The tracks to the right served the Rowntrees factory. The 150s were subsequently replaced by Class 158 DMUs, still a retrograde step by comparison with the quiet and comfortable Mk2 hauled stock.
