Marconi Magnetic Detector

Marconi magnetic detector. This device was based upon the principal of recording radio signals on a rotating piece of steel wire, for instantaneous detection by a magnetic pickup. It would have been used with a Marconi

Tuner (see accompanying photo) to make a complete radio receiver. While the magnetic detector made a poor radio receiver, the concept was the forerunner of the audio tape recorder. Seen in the Marconi collection of the da Vinci Museum, Milano, Italy.
