Marietta's Suffering
A scene from the program "Burning, Battle & Triumphant Rebirth of Marietta." Most of the program consisted of readings from letters and diaries. Costumed actors on a simple stage represented the writers of the accounts.
Behind the stage was one of the many US flags lining the streets near the square and the paths through the square itself. There were a few Stars and Bars flags in the park also.
The people of Northwest Georgia endured war in their homeland in May/June and again in October/November, 1864. Their food was taken, their property wrecked, their homes might be commandeered or destroyed. Marietta's business district was burned by Kilpatrick's cavalry (US) on November 13, 1864.
