Sri Lanka Handed over the Floods Relief to Pakistanon 8th August 2010
As directed by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Government of Sri Lanka handed over a stock of 18,000 kg of dry rations, as emergency relief goods, to the Government of Pakistan today, 8 August 2010, at 4.00 p.m., at the Chaklala Air Base, Islamabad.
On behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Pakistan, Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody handed over the above reliefs to Mr Naimat-Ullah, Additional Secretary and Coordinator for the flood relief operations of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
During the handing over, the Additional Secretary mentioned that Sri Lanka had been a very special country for Pakistan and their relationship had always been exceptionally good, and both countries have been there for each other in the hour of need.
He profusely thanked the Government of Sri Lanka for the kind gesture at this needy hour.
The Director of South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Dr Muhammad Tariq, Mr M H M N Bandara, Minister Counsellor and Defence Adviser, Group Captain Sampath Thuyacontha of the High Commission of Sri Lanka also participated at this event.
The Flood Relief contribution was coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka.
