MOTOFEST COVENTRY CONCOURS - JUNE 2024 - Diamler DB18 DOLPHIN 1939
MOTOFEST COVENTRY CONCOURS - 10TH ANNIVERSARY.
Coventry Cathedral.
MotoFest is a unique blend of motorsport demonstrations, static displays, live music and anything else with a connection to Coventry and transport.
The Diamler DB18 Dolphin is a 2500cc four door open sports tourer with coach work by Coventry based in the Charlesworth factory.
The car was designed in 1938, with a view to providing the usually conservative Diamler brand with a sleek, sporty (90mph) open top four door continental tourer for the nineteen forties.
In 1939, with the onset of the second World War, Diamler moved to war production and the twenty or so vehicles produced by them were stored at the factory.
During the second Coventry blitz of April 1941, all but four cars were destroyed with "FHP 152" sustaining bomb damage to the rear of the vehicle.
The Charlesworth factory was completely destroyed along with the Dolphin body tooling and patterns. "FHP 152" was repaired by the company with Bob Crouch the works manager becoming its first registered owner in 1946.
The car has been in the ownership of the "Clarke" family since 1959.
