the waiting room

in the out patients waiting room of the hospital i hear fragments of people's conversations. my mother remembers when it was a sanitarium for the tuberculosis epidemic in the late 30's.she starts to tell me about the time she was working here as a nurse but her words sink into the heat and the clutter of hospital routine.
