A vital shipping point between Lake Superior and Lake Huron, the four American locks (pictured) and one Canadian lock allows boats to bypass the rapids pf the St. Mary's River. Lake water levels are 21 feet apart. Visitors can watch close-up as the huge ships "lock through". in the background is the international Bridge linking Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
