Edsel & Caddy

EDSEL & CADDY

Walker County, Alabama

October 8, 1994

The guy who owned these two cars collects all kinds of 1950s memorabilia, and owned more than a dozen 50s cars at the time I shot this. The Edsel is yellow, which is fitting, since Edsels were considered to be "lemons", and it has often been said that the grill makes the car look like it is sucking a lemon. The 59 Caddy was pink and cream.

I revisited with the owner in 2012. Although he no longer owns either of these cars, he does still have quite a collection of other cars. I'm not sure where the Edsel is these days, but, prior to 2004, the Caddy was sold to someone who owned a T-shirt shop at Panama City Beach, Florida. Hurricane Ivan hit that area hard, and the car is now believed to be sitting at the bottom of of the Gulf of Mexico, no doubt providing a very nice hangout for the cooler fish in the area.
