SaabFrustration

...your vehicle says: Steering lock failure and will not start. This means the car thinks the streering lock is engaged when it is not. The car always starts but it takes 2-15 tries. The shop replaces the ignition switch. Nothing. The shop replaces a major part in the steering column and reprograms the electronics and promise me the car before going to Europe. The steering column part is faulty so they put the old one back in so I can drive to the airport. The car does not start at all. They give a loaner. They have the car every day and replace the steering column module and play with the electronics. Bill: $1400.

The problem resurfaces after a couple days. They have the car four days more. They replace the ignition switch. Now all parts related to the problem are new. Problem is still there. The dealer concludes that they have no clue how to fix it. No charge to me. They would have given me a loaner if I needed one. Saab was contacted and has no fix. They advise me to drive the car assuring me it will always start eventually - and if I get stranded maybe they can finally find the problem! How do I know sell the car. Any buyer will notice - and I could never sell it in good faith without mentioning it.

On the plus side, this issue resolves another nagging problem. Sometimes the car will not lock. You to go inside and restart the car and then lock it. Why? The car thinks the key is still in the ignition. I should not say resolve as much as explains...

Do I hate the dealer? No, service is great and they have been very accomodating. Saab? Well, that is a different story. Although I'm not going as strong as hate quite yet.

...oh, it is a fun and good-looking, but uncomfortable car. Any takers? The problems are diagnosed, but not fatal. Merely inconvenient. Anyone? It has all the options available, a sweet turbo and only has 66,000 miles. Sold then? Didn't think so :)
