Bronx-Whitestone bridge

...I was all alone on a beach in the Bronx for this shot. It seemed to be located in a decent area - and the sunset was lovely. I found it using my favorite two tools: (1) Googleearth and (2) my Garmin GPS. You go on Googleearth and think about potential photos.

The procedure is something like this.

1. Idea discovery:

Bridge + water + sunset in the west behind the bridge.

2. Location.

That looks like a potential place to shot. It is close to some residential areas. There is a beach. I can get all the way down to the water.

3. Finding the location.

I then find it on my GPS while sitting at the computer and add it to favorites on the Garmin. Next I select it to see how far it is from JC - and add 50% in case of traffic. I then research the area on the NYT page on crime in NYC from 2004-2006 (I think). It has all homicides.

4. Scouting.

When I go to my car, my GPS finds the exact location easy. I drive around the area some to get a feel for it. Is it safe? Do I feel safe? Where is it best to park? Any other angles?

5. Just wait for sunset - and then another 20 minutes for this nice light.

The best thing about this location was that I could see the Throgs Neck bridge to the left out of the picture.
