Week 33: Home

Week 33: Home

I was born in raised in suburban Cleveland, OH. I went to undergrad in Iowa, grad school in DC, and lived and worked in the DC area for 8 years. Once my girls were born, it didn't take us long to figure out that we wanted to move back home. Pete also grew up in a Cleveland suburb and, except for the time we spent in DC, has lived here all his life.

Things about Cleveland that mean "home" to me:

1. Family - immediate and extended

2. Midwestern kindness

3. Indians baseball games

4. Festivals - ethnic and church-based

5. The Cleveland Museum of Art

6. Ending sentences with "at." For example, "Do you know where my car keys are at?"

7. The song "Cleveland Rocks" by Ian Hunter played on the radio every Friday night at 5pm along with "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen.

8. Pierogies - homemade by your grandmother and even available in restaurants.

9. "Wait 'til next year" is the Cleveland sports fan's motto

10. Fish fries during Lent, every Friday night.

11. Green space - tons of parks everywhere. :)
