November is Prematurity Awareness month and the 17th is World Prematurity Day. Many people don’t realize the statistics of preterm birth: 15 million babies are born preterm every year, that’s 1 in 10. More than 1 million babies die each year due to complications of preterm birth and many of those who survive face a lifetime of disability.
My daughter was born very early and spent 11 weeks in the hospital. It was required the she be delivered early due to complications in the pregnancy that no one could predict. They still do not know how to identify the complication, just like many other pre-term births. Today she is a health 19 month old with no fear, like most toddlers her age.
