However due to the his influence and corruption of the times he was given an illegal higher level of amenities for his stay.in prison. Eastern State Penitentiary in recent years has been doing a slow rehab of the prison trying to restore it it's original condition but funds for the work are limited and it will take decades at the current rate. However the "Al Capone cell." had the wall plaster redone and repainted while the original furniture pieces have been restored.
