Petrified wood log Prettified Forest National Park
In Petrified Forest National Park you have one of the best collections of petrified wood logs in the world. This log is about a bit over three feet in diameter and around and about four to five feet long at best guess. This sample felt so heavy I doubt even a dozen men could budge this. Taking such wood from the park is a felony with huge fines. But outside the park boundaries which is a big mix of private and public lands a polished piece of petrified wood can fetch a nice bit of money from collectors. Luckily for me this park is the northern part of the state which is vastly cooler than the brutal hothouse temperatures that exist in the southern two thirds of the state which made for much more tolerable hiking conditions.
