Meteor/Barringer crater Arizona
Approximately fifty thousand yeas ago a iron/nickel meteorite about 150 feet in diameter slammed into what would be Arizona creating this crater that is 3900 feet in diameter and about 560 feet deep in the center. Because at least on the geologic scale this crater is considered very new and is said to be one of the best preserved craters on Earth. Conveniently located just off I-40 near Flagstaff it is a popular local tourist destination. Regulars visitors are not allowed in the crater itself but only high level scientists are.
