Grand Canyon Skywalk

This was finished in 2007 by the Hualapai Tribe at the cost of 30 million dollars which includes the bridge the arrival terminal and the building by the bridge which includes a restaurant and of course a gift shop. The Hualapai tribe is a small tribe of just a few thousand individuals and had a horrid 50% unemployment rate but they had one asset. Their reservation bordered a very beautiful stretch of the Grand Canyon. So it was just a manner of getting financing and hiring the engineers to build the project. The bridge and support beams weigh 1.6 million pounds and is designed to withstand a 8.0 Richter scale earthquake. Now the bridge has seen millions of visitors. You are not allowed to bring cameras on the bridges an have to wear cloth booties over your shoes as not to scratch the glass. I was skeptical at first but looking through the glass floors of the bridge and out from it was a simply outstanding and spectacular view that blew my wife and I away. On the floor above we stopped to have lunch in a restaurant. The food unfortunately was mediocre but at least we got a great view of the bridge while we ate lunch. The shuttle bus then takes you to a second stop just a couple miles away where you have about a half mile walk along the cliffs with even more awesome views. At the gift shop we bought a small piece of pottery.
