Hornet take-away
I found this encounter fascinating, it shows how ferocious a predator Hornets can be. This is the final shot in a series that took 5 minutes to capture. Here the hornet flies off with a meal size packet of Roesells Bush Cricket which he flew into the tree tops to consume. The cricket was nearly as big as he was initially, but after a brief struggle it was subdued and the hornet then took 5 minutes cutting it into bite size chunks to carry away. The awesome jaws made short work of the crickets thick armoured skin. The series was shot at Berrygrove woods near Watford, Herts UK, back on 1st September 2010.
