Purple-throated mountain Gem (Lampornis calolaemus)

We only saw this little stunner once, at Monteverde, and a taxi was waiting for us, so we were a bit pushed! This is the female, and she is drab compared to the male - though I was very pleased with this capture. The males have an iridescent sheen that makes them appear dull from most angles, but then they catch the light and wow!!

 

There are 2 shots of the male in the comments below and in the set below right. The first shows the normal look, then the second the full glory! A bit soft, but best I could get at the time.
