Preserved Ex-Northern - Class 144 - 144009 - BREL Derby/Walter Alexander
With a maximum speed of 75 mph (121 km/h) these units have been refurbished and re-powered by Cummins LTA10-R 6-cylinder 10-litre units being originally fitted with the Leyland TL11 6-cylinder 11.1-litre unit. Built in 1985 to replace ageing DMU's on the BR network, this class were mainly used in the West Yorkshire PTE(Metro) area. 144009 is seen here arriving at Ramsbottom, from Bury Bolton Street, at the ELR Winter Diesel Day on 10/02/2024. It is working the slightly delayed 2E01 09:44 Bury Bolton Street - Ramsbottom non-stop service. It is wearing an Arriva style 'Great Midlands Trains' fictitious livery.
