Preserved London Transport - M5 THX105S - MCW Metrobus DR101/3 - Metro-Cammell
New in 09/1978, this was the last in a batch of five prototypes delivered to London Transport for evaluation against the Park Royal built Leyland Titan B15's. The premature end of production of the Titan resulted in the Metrobus being the largest class of the two, totalling 1,440 Mk.I's, they being purchased between 1978 and 1986. A few more secondhand examples were acquired later from GMPTE, Tyne & Wear PTE and Yorkshire Rider(West Yorkshire PTE). It is seen here looking resplendent when arriving at at the former Burscough Airfield, Lancashire, for the Merseyside Transport Trust's excellent open and running day on 31/07/2022. © Peter Steel 2022.
