Metroline Travel - Atlas Bus - M367 GYE367W - MCW Metrobus DR101/12 - Metro-Cammell

New to London Transport in 08/1980 and entering service from Finchley, this Metrobus is seen here, also carrying Atlas Bus fleetnames, on 25/10/1994, at Edgware Bus Station, when operating former Atlas Bus service 107 to New Barnet. From Finchley, it moved to Willesden, it's depot when seen here, thus coming under Metroline control and therefore passing into the hands of the newly privatised Metroline on 07/10/1994, when Metroline were involved in a management buyout. From 05/2000, it became used as a driver trainer out of Willesden and was give a blue Malaysia contravision livery. In 02/2004, it moved into storage at Cricklewood and immediately passed to Ensign Bus, Purfleet.

The reason for the Atlas Bus names, is that the Harlesden based bus and coach operator, formerly known as Pan Atlas, who ran several London Transport Tendered Services, including the 107, had just been acquired by Metroline prior to when this photo was taken. For passengers on this service, it was a somewhat retrograde step, as Atlas Bus had been using a fleet of Cummins powered Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympian's that were new in 10/1989. Obviously, New Barnet, was not on the lower destination blinds of these Metrobus.

As a footnote, it's now obvious this wasn't the place to photo the buses here as they seem to have been fitted with snorkel style floodlight pylons as added extras!

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being the excellent Fujichrome.

I would request, as with all my photos, that they are not copied or downloaded in any way, shape or form. © Peter Steel 1994.
