Southend Transport - 558 B84SWX - Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/3RH - Plaxton Paramount 3200 II Express

New to West Yorkshire Road Car Co.(2712), in 02/1985, this Tiger was among a number of secondhand/thirdhand coaches acquired by Southend for it's ever increasing commuter services between the Essex coastal town and London. They had competition against Thamesway but both operators were noted carrying good healthy loads. They started to spring up to gain passenger traffic when the railways were suffering from strikes and unreliability, especially against what is known as the 'Misery Line' - The London - Tilbury - Southend line from Fenchurch Street. Plenty of other successful commuter services from various operators were set up also, especially along the Kent corridor. This Tiger is seen here already with healthy numbers aboard when loading for Southend at Aldgate Bus Station on 24/08/1992. It was among a trio, B83-5SWX, acquired from Yorkshire Voyager, Leeds, in 1990. Aldgate Bus Station is also known as Minories Bus Station, after the development of the area.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being a Boots colourslide.
