Aldagte Minories - Southend invaders

A trio of Southend Tigers surround a The Bee Line Volvo at Aldgate Bus Station, on 24/08/1992, prior to their departures back to their home areas on the popular commuter services. Aldgate, also known as Minories, was always worth a visit at peak times due to the fact it's proximity to the financial sector of the City of London made it popular with commuters, especially after the rail strikes of the period and the competitive fares of the services. You could travel as far as Southend in the east or Oxford in the west, also Cambridge and East Anglia area services called here as well as a variety of London bus routes. Nearest the camera is Southend Transport 562, A106EPA, Plaxton Paramount 3200 Express bodied Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/2RH. It was new to London Country(TP6) in 12/1983 for use on Green Line work. Forty of these 11 metre long Tigers were built for London Country. It passed to London Country(North West) on the split of LCBS in 09/1986. In 01/1989 it was returned off-lease to Kirby (dealer) and passed to Kentish Bus in 05/1989 but returned to Kirby (dealer) in 01/1990 before being bought by Southend Transport in 03/1990. It certainly went through some operators and then passed Thamesdown Transport where it was numbered 319. Alongside is sister 554, A154EPA, a Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/3R that also carries the Plaxton Paramount 3200 Express body but being at 12 metres in length rather than 11 metres. New to London Country(TPL54), in 03/1984, it passed to London Country(South East) on the split of LCBS in 09/1986 which in turn became Kentish Bus and was re-numbered 104. It passed to Southend Transport by 06/1990 then to London & Country(Guildford & West Surrey) in 1995, so therefore returning more or less to old haunts, not that it ever left them in the first place by the looks of it. It's claim to fame is that it appreared at the 30th. British Coach Rally at Brighton when new. Next is interloper, The Bee Line 772, F772OJH, a Jonckheere Jubilee bodied Volvo B10M-60. This was new to Berks Bucks Bus Co.(T/a The Bee Line) in 01/1989. It was in a batch of ten. On the far right is Southend Transport 550, A250SVW, a Duple Caribbean bodied Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/3RP. New in 07/1984, this was the last in a batch of five, 246-50, A246-50SVW. This is now preserved by Ensignbus in this livery. If I remember rightly, these were no slouches.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being a Boots colourslide.
