Preserved London Transport Routemasters

Love them or loathe them, there a plenty of the 'iconic' Park Royal bodied Routemasters now in preservation. These smart examples are seen on display at the 2016 Wirral Bus & Tram Show, Shore Road, Birkenhead, on 02/10/2016. On the left is RM531, WLT531. New to LT in 10/1960, it was previously registered WLT531 and 854UXC. It is now resident on the Wirral. In the centre is open-top converted RM1783, 783DYE. New to LT in 1961, this smart RM is now owned and operated by www.routemaster4hire.co.uk (Please see update by clicking on link), from Llay, Wrexham, having also been operated by Rees Industries (Liverpool) for use at Liverpool Garden Festival in 1986 following conversion to open-top at Aldenham. It was re-acquired by London Buses in 1987 and allocated to the sightseeing fleet. It then passed to Bath Bus Co. then bought by Western Greyhound for their heritage fleet. On the right is RM40, VLT40, new to London Transport in 08/1959. All these are of the R2RH model. © Peter Steel 2016.
