Remember when...

My first digital camera was (still have it) a Nikon Coolpix 990 purchased in Dec 2000. It came with this card. The camera is 3.34MP and would fill this card up with just a few photos in the largest file size. I needed a larger card for a Route 66 trip and bought a 64MB card for $150+tax. So I had 80MB for the whole trip to San Diego where I could empty the cards to a CD and return. I think I wound up taking most of the photos in small or medium size basic. Those Files from that first trip are so small that they are just about useless outside of web applications. Digital cameras changed everything, but we still were in desperate need of cheap memory.

My CompactFlash collection eventually grew to include

-16MB (came with camera)

-64MB ($150)

-128MB (probably $80)

-128MB (probably $40)

-512MB (I think about $45)

All that still doesn't total 1GB for over $300!
