SLIDE SCANNING PROJECT

Another of my oldest slides. This is from 1964 in St. Louis. My Dad took me, my brother and a boyhood friend from our neighborhood on a special flight in July of that year. Ozark Airlines had a special promotion that summer called "Sightseeing Excursion Flights". These were about 20 minute flights around the St. Louis area for, well, "sightseeing". We were kids and loved this little summer adventure. The plane we flew in was the historic DC-3, which was a mainstay of the Ozark fleet back then. Ozark also flew Martin 404's, Fairchild F-27's and eventually joined the jet age with the Douglas DC-9. My Dad took this shot as we flew over the now iconic St. Louis landmark, The Gateway Arch. . .only half-way built! The downtown riverfront area was being renovated during the mid-sixties. A brand new stadium for both the baseball Cardinals and the NFL Cardinals would be finished in 1966. I still have the brochure and souvenir ticket for the flight. The Fare was $2.77. . .Taxes was 23 cents. . .Total charge for the flight. . .$3.00. It was my first ride in an "airliner". A fun memory from the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!
