ERCOUPE - WORLD'S SAFEST PLANE

The Ercoupe is a low-wing monoplane that made its first flight in 1937. . .The last model year was 1970. . .It was advertised as the world's safest plane, and to back that claim, the Ercoupe was the first aircraft certified by the Civil Aeronautics Administration as "characteristically incapable of spinning." In 1940, LIFE magazine called the Ercoupe "nearly foolproof". . .An interesting bit of trivia is that Ercoupes were used by the Civil Air Patrol to patrol for German submarines during World War II. . .This nice one was on display at the EAA Fly-In on October 7, 2017 at Jabara Airport in Wichita. . .
