DESERT VIEW WATCHTOWER
The Watchtower is one of the most prominent features on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. . .The 70 foot high stone tower was built in 1932. . .It contains a gift shop and observation decks at the top which afford fantastic views of the Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert. . .I took this shot in 1977 during a vacation drive from Wichita to Los Angeles. . .The original was shot on Kodachrome 25 color slide film with a Nikon Nikkormat EL camera and Nikkor 24mm lens. . .There are several shots of that camera and lens on my photostream. . .I decided to convert it to black and white to enhance the stone textures of the tower. 1977? WOW, I just can't believe it was that long ago. . .Oh well, time marches on, but I have very strong memories of that trip and of taking this shot. . .
