With the current interest in the movie Ford v Ferrari, it's interesting to see the actual men characterized in that film.

Here is Ken Miles in the No. 1 Car, one of the three GT40 Mk. II's fielded by the Shelby American team. Miles shared driving duties in the No. 1 Car with Denny Hulme. Their car was leading near the end of the race with the McLaren/Amon No. 2 car in 2nd place and the Bucknum/Hutcherson No. 5 car in 3rd. Ford’s desire to have a photogenic 1-2-3 photo finish, however, interfered with what should have been the natural result.

At the finish, three Ford GT40 Mk. II's came across the line as desired, but not in the order as expected. Due to positioning of the car’s at the end, the No. 2 car, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon was declared the winner of the race, instead of the Miles/Hulme car that was leading otherwise.

I tried to improve the photo from the Flickr site for The Henry Ford to improve its appearance.
