Chris the Redeemer statue, Rio, Brazil

Christ the Redeemer, considered as the icon of Rio De Janeiro and Brazil is located at the top of the Corcovado Mountain in Rio. As you can see, it is a giant statue, 98 ft tall (not including the pedestal) and the arms stretch by 92 ft. Though it is possibly the most well known statue of Jesus Christ, it is not the tallest one, it is the fifth tallest one. Four other statues are in Bolivia, Poland, Vietnam and Philippines, in the order of their height. The statue in Poland would be considered highest if the 10 ft crown is included. There are two other statues in Mexico and Indonesia, which have the same height as Christ the redeemer. I was surprised to learn that there are many more tall statues of Buddha than Jesus Christ. Interestingly the two countries with most number of tall (30 meters or more) statues are China (34) and India(24). The Buddha statue in Lushan county, China (sort of midway between Bejing and Shanghai) is by far the tallest, a hopping 420 ft tall! You can find more about the tallest statues in the world here:
