Brown Chafer (dead), Talkin Tarn, 8 July 18
Brown Chafer (Serica brunnea) found dead on a fencepost at the edge of woodland to the west of Talkin Tarn, 8 July 18.
The montage photos were taken in situ with my bridge camera (using a piece of Karrimat as backdrop) but as I collected the specimen I may take some more detailed shots with my microscope at a later date.
Although there are 14 records for Cumbria listed on NBN Atlas, most are historical, with only three being post 1935. So I'm glad I took the trouble to identify it - even it if was dead!
Note added 16 July: Comments regarding county records should be ignored - see notes to photo posted 15 July 18.
