Forest Bugs (adult and nymph), Finglandrigg Wood Nature Reserve, 22 September 16
Adult Forest Bug with second-instar nymph in the Finglandrigg Wood Nature Reserve, 22 September 16.
I wouldn't normally have bothered photographing this adult as the light was so poor, but once I saw that there was a nymph in close proximity (bottom right) I thought I'd better have a crack at it! I would imagine that this was just a random juxtaposition, but I thought the size comparison was instructive. The pair was found on the same line of fenceposts photographed on 17 September.
A total of two adults and four second-instar nymphs were seen in various parts of the reserve during a 90-minute stay. Earlier in the day I'd visited both Kingmoor Sidings and Orton Moss without anything of note being found.
