Weird weed

This weird little weed was all over the side of the road, where the road had been graded. Like most invasive weeds, it grows were the ground it disturbed and nowhere else.

It seems to be the immature version of a tumble weed, but we didn't recognize it. It's pliable like loofa, but alive.
