Cal Sag Cycles Round 2 - Kids Earn a Bike Program

Class shots taken from the second go round of Cal Sag Cycles. Thank you Coca Cola Foundation and the Rails to Trails Conservancy.

14 boys and girls got to learn how to build a bicycle, graduated from Traffic Skills 101, and ended up with a sweet ride: a brand new Fuji Bicycle Absolute 3.0, extra set of tires, an extra tube, a patch kit, tire levers, a small multitool, a heavy duty lock, a Planet Bike light set, kickstand, water bottle cage and bottle, skate-style helmet and a LOT of self confidence!

The kids are expected to do community service both in the class and beyond. So far almost all the kids have repaired bikes in their neighborhood. They have also worked several events such as repairs at District 130 bike day, TGIF picnics in town, two "pop up Bike Shops" and two Health Fairs. They do repairs, teach the ABC Quick Check, talk about road safety skills, etc.

In this photo, Kiera (graduate from the 1st round of classes) demonstrates how to attach the handlebars to the front fork of a new bike while Kania and Leslye watch.
