Sinclair, Wyoming
Interstate 80 passes right by the old company town of Sinclair, a place that's always fascinated me. We've never had time to explore it, though, and we didn't have time today. One of these days, though, I want to spend a little time here.
Sinclair was planned community built starting around 1924, when the Producers and Refiners Corporation built the refinery you see here on the right. They originally called the place Parco, after the corporation, but the corporation went under during the Great Depression, and Sinclair Oil changed the name when they bought the refinery and the town. The refinery is still going after nearly a century. The town, which sits off to the left, has a population today hovering right around 400.
There's also a ghost town with a brief but interesting history not far from here, and a state park that might be worth exploring., I think Sinclair's probably worth a day.
