Catalpa Tree

This is the thing I saw posted on the Twitter that made me go back to the old neighborhood. It seems a catalpa tree on the Boulevard has been cut down, and one of the residents didn't like it and posted this sign.

I understand the sentiment. I also can't help but notice that the sign itself is sticking out of a big hollow spot in the stump. Now, I don't know trees (IDKT), and internet research does say that a hollow tree isn't necessarily a dead tree, or really even an unhealthy tree. But it's also not necessarily a structurally sound tree. Though I probably walked past this tree 700 times during the 13 years I lived in this neighborhood, I have no specific memory of it, but the Google Street View picture shows that it has a severe lean to it. So I don't necessarily knock the city for cutting it down. It'd be nice to see them replace it, but Chicago's not really doing a lot of tree replacement at the moment.
