Chenonceau - The Chateau of the Women

This chateau was built in the 16th century and is amazing - the entire palace is built in the River Cher, it bridges one side with the other.

It is called the Chateau of the women because it was lived in by more women than men. Two of the most famous women were King Henri II's wife and mistress. They both had their own bedrooms and gardens. The mistress, Diane de Poitier had the larger garden, but Henri's wife, Catherine de Médicis hung a large picture of herself over the fireplace in the Diane's bedroom.
