San Francisco, California: prices on food...
I drove down, so took un-perishable food with me because I knew prices would be high San Francisco. Since I am vegan, I use a lot of canned beans of different types, or I cook dry beans. Canned beans I bought in Portland, at a well priced store, organic, cost me 99 cents a piece... here you see the prices :) This was a near by store, some of the other stores were a little better priced. But, the whole time there, I did not need any dried or canned food as I had brought them w me... lots of nuts, grains, seeds and beans :) I did buy fruits and vegetables there :) those were expensive too, but the places at near by Mission St vegetable stands, geared towards hispanics, and Chinatown which was distant, but still shopped there for food once or twice, were inexpensive but the variety was different, could not find any organic items for one thing. In Chinatown, they did not have regular bananas or yellow peaches which were in their peek season, and I wanted some. They had the white peaches...
please see large :)
