THE PIER
Sassnitz, Island of Rügen, Germany
We booked a small apartment for a week in Sassnitz at the Balkan Sea and decided to stay in something typical of the region, called the “Rügener Bäderarchitekur”. You will find them in different shapes and sizes over the island, all of them however sharing the typical white beam construction look.
Once we arrived at our residence we just could not believe our eyes. This place was simply gorgeous. Not only was the apartment roomy, clean and well cared for but also the view from our balcony was just breathtaking.
I remember this day like it was just yesterday. It was Sunday morning; my wife had just finished preparing the breakfast on the balcony when the sunrays strayed over the Baltic Sea. It was a shoot not to miss.
I used some of the balcony wood structure as a “window” to frame the pier of Sassnitz in the background. The light was directly measured off the platform of the pier and an orange filter was used to give enough contrast between the blue sky and the dark blue colored Balkan sea.
