STORES

Studen, Switzerland

While staying over at my parent’s house during a business trip I decided to go back to my old school and take some photos. I did walk around for about a half an hour and although old found memories from the past came up, nothing really inspired me from a photographic point of view. That was until I stood for the second time in front of my old classroom window. The stores were pulled halfway down and suddenly I had my take.

Framing was a bit tricky and I focused in as tightly as possible, slightly offsetting the shoot to keep the curtain holders not in the middle of the frame. There was not much light because the sky was overcast. The exposure was therefore taking right of the curtain band and I used a yellow filter for a bit more detail showing.

I discovered the final shot only once I returned back to California while developing the film. For some sentimental reason it made me sad, although I liked the shoot, but I knew at that point that I will not see my parents again for at least another year.
