The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - Cuenca, Ecuador
Cathedral de la Inmaculada was originally designed to become the largest cathedral in all of South America. I have learned that the original architect made some structural errors and it's towers are truncated because of that. If they had been raised to their planned height, the foundation of the church would not have been able to bear the weight. In spite of the architect's large mistake, the New Cathedral of Cuenca stands as a monumental work of faith and the skyline of its domes has become a symbol for the city. Its facade is made of alabaster and local marble, while the floor is covered with pink marble imported from Carrara, Italy.
