grad student workspace

Since this group is supposed to be about 'workspaces' and not 'desktops', I thought I would post my space that is for working on my doctoral thesis.

Highly mobile and very comfortable. I have discovered that sitting at a desk, especially with a laptop, just gives me backaches and sore wrists. So I converted what was a desk and chair to a more comfortable environment with a folded up mattress pad and two old iBook boxes (full of books). This recessed corner provides a cocoon feeling, especially now that I added the curtains to separate workspace from the rest of the bedroom.

On the floor is a pad of big idea paper. The iBook boxes serve as a resting space for the laptop, which I'm usually using on my lap (!). The mattress pad means I can change position, leaning left or right, but keep warm in the chilly London-basement-flat winter.
