This tree was grown from seed collected by D.C. Shen in 1968 from trees in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Those trees had been collected in the wild in China's Guang Dung province 300 years before and planted in Hong Kong by immigrants. The trees from which the seeds came are up to 55' tall and measure 24" DBH, exhibiting a slow rate of growth. (DBH is a standard arborist term meaning 'diameter at breast height'; breast height is defined as 1.35m/4.5 ft above the ground)
